Boston Blazers Kick-Off LEAD Assembly Program with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation and Charlestown Youth Lacrosse & Learning Center

December 4, 2009

Boston, MA– The Boston Blazers Leadership, Education, Attitude, and Dedication (LEAD) Assembly Program has partnered with the American Heart Association’s Alliance for a Healthier Generation to promote teamwork, healthy lifestyles and leadership. With the help of the Charlestown Youth Lacrosse & Learning Center (CLLC), the Blazers and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation will commence their 2010 season with a kick-off event on Wednesday, December 9 from 6-8 p.m. at CLLC’s Community Center on 14 Green Street in Charlestown, MA.

“The Blazers LEAD Assembly Program aims to teach students about lacrosse while inspiring individuals to achieve their goals through hard work, determination and a positive attitude,” said Blazers President Doug Reffue. “Through this partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, we hope to provide students with an opportunity to interact with professional athletes who support dedication, activity and community in their professional and personal lives.”

“One of the key challenges kids are facing today is inactivity,” said Patti McKenna, Senior Vice President of the American Heart Association, Boston. “The Alliance for a Healthier Generation strives to partner with great organizations like the Boston Blazers through their LEAD program to encourage kids to become more active by playing sports like lacrosse to develop not only their athletic skills and coordination, but their teamwork and sportsmanship as well. Being healthy on and off the field are all skills critical to success in today’s world.”

This kick-off event will include a free lacrosse clinic hosted by the Blazers, raffle prizes including a pair of 2010 Blazers’ season tickets, a chance to pre-register for CLLC’s upcoming winter and spring lacrosse programs, a sneak peak at the Blazers’ LEAD Program and a chance for youth to take the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s empowerME pledge.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Krista Olson at Krista@blazerslacrosse.com.
